An Ashland man was arraigned yesterday in Westborough District Court after he nearly hit a Southborough Police cruiser Sunday, resulting in his fifth drunken driving charge, authorities said.
Officer Rick Mattioli wrote in court documents that he was driving north on Cordaville Road around 3:30 p.m. when he saw a white 2010 Ford Econovan traveling in the opposite direction cross over the double yellow center line twice.
“On the second time, the van almost hit the police cruiser and the vehicle traveling behind me, forcing both of us to move to the right,” Mattioli wrote.
Mattioli turned around and followed the van, which he said appeared to be a U-Haul rental, and saw it cross the center line three more times.
He pulled the van over and the driver, Carl F. Johnson, 64, of 119 Main St., Apt. 212, “admitted to drinking one beer,” Mattioli wrote.
